Amphitryon (digital quality)
Amphitryon (1935), also known as Amphitryon: Happiness from the Clouds, is a highly regarded German musical comedy film directed by Reinhold Schünzel, produced by UFA. It is a satirical, lighthearted adaptation of the ancient Greek myth (via Molière and Kleist), starring Willy Fritsch in a dual role as both the god Jupiter and the mortal general Amphitryon. Jupiter (Fritsch), weary of his wife, descends to earth to pursue the beautiful Alkmene (Käthe Gold). He disguises himself as her husband, Amphitryon (also Fritsch), who is away at war, leading to comedic situations and misunderstandings.
The film is characterized as an "ambitious" musical, known for being visually opulent and featuring anachronistic humor similar to American films of the era. It was a major success in 1935 Germany, renowned for its technical skill and performances. The film is considered a classic of the era and a masterful blend of musical, comedy, and mythological parody.

The sets are fabulous, the dialogue is great (and very funny) and the cast is outstanding. Jupiter (Willi Fritsch) and his wife Juno (Adele Sandrock) remind a typical old Jewish couple.
