Counterfeiters (banned by the Allied Powers)

Falschmünzer (Original Title)

Falschmünzer," released in 1940, is a German crime film, also known as "Counterfeiters," directed by Hermann Pfeiffer. The film revolves around a group of international counterfeiters operating out of Switzerland who are discovered and thwarted by the Nazi SD. The plot involves counterfeit money found near Lake Constance, an investigation by the "Reichszentrale für Falschmünzerei," and the involvement of a young graphic artist who betrays the counterfeiters. Of course, "femme fatal" is present. The beautiful con artist Juliette Balouet works for the counterfeiters and falls in love with Professor Bassi in Italy.

Excellent picture in its genre. Lest you forget when this film was made, do note the pictures hanging on the wall of the criminal policeman's office when he is visited by a Swiss colleague: those of the heads of the criminal police at that time - Heydrich and Himmler. Hitler’s portrait is also on a wall, plenty of Swastika and “Heil Hitler”. I guess that was the reason why after the end of World War II, all copies of the film were confiscated by the High Command of the victorious Allied Powers (so-called democracies), and its screening was banned.
