Die fledermaus (Original Title)

"Die Fledermaus," meaning "The Bat" in English, is a classic Viennese operetta by Johann Strauss II, famously adapted into a 1945 German colorful costume film. The director of the Baden City Theater, Falke, becomes the victim of an evil prank by his friends who left him after a ball masquerade on a park bench in a bat suit, assuring him that they had brought him home. When Falke wakes up in the morning, he is arrested for indecent appearance and ends up in jail. There he comes up with a plan for revenge on the offenders. And a funny series of disguises, imaginary infidelities, suspicions of infidelity and other purely vaudeville situations begin...

Wow. Very entertaining. Filmed in the closing days of the Second World War, this 1945 treatment of Johann Strauss' Die Fledermaus is nothing less than a tribute to the technical and innovative genius of the German film industry. This is the best film adaptation of this classical operetta. Production values like music, costumes, and color photography are outstanding. It is astonishing that the crew and the cast were able to make such a lavish, beautiful and very witty film under the circumstances. Pay attention to the magnificent 1001 nights dance at 44-47 min.

I would especially like to mention Frosh, played by Josef Egger, and Prince Orlovsky, played by Siegfried Breuer. In my opinion, these are the best Frosh and Orlovsky of all the productions of the Bat. And this is despite the fact that in the other two film adaptations, the role of Frosh was played by Hans Moser himself.
