Another unknown gem of Aryan cinema. This adaptation of Dostoevsky's novel is respectful of the source material, without any pretentiousness. The production is not particularly large-scale, almost intimate, with excellent acting. As always, Eugene Klopfer, who plays General Kirilov, is a standout. His portrayal of the character is ambiguous, contradictory, and nuanced, with both positive and negative traits.
