Conrad Schroeter is a great actor and the artistic director of a theatre in Berlin. In the young Gisela Ahrens, only recently taken on as a member of the theatre cast, he sees not only a talented actress, but someone in whom he thinks he's fallen in love. To Conrad's great distress, however, Gisela has fallen for the scheming seducer Jurgensen.
