Das Ferienkind (1943), directed by Karl Leiter, is a German comedy-drama that begins as a lighthearted farce and transitions into a sentimental family tale. The film stars Hans Moser as Vinzenz Panigel, a retired stationmaster who has severed ties with his daughter Hedi after her marriage to a Hamburg waiter. Panigel's housekeeper, Emma, and his friend, teacher Stockhammer, aim to mend the rift by introducing Panigel to his grandson Hans as a "holiday child." However, during the journey, Hans and another boy, August Kleewein, swap names, which leads to multiple complications and comedic misunderstandings.
