The Hound of the Baskervilles (digital quality)
Der Hund von Baskerville (1937) is a German mystery-horror film, a faithful adaptation of Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes novel, featuring Bruno Güttner as Holmes and Fritz Odemar as Watson, where the duo investigates the curse of a demonic hound stalking the Baskerville estate, with a young Lord Henry (Peter Voß) as the next target, all amidst moorland fog, secret signals, and the sinister Stapleton figure, blending classic detective work with supernatural dread.

Frirz Odemar’s interpretation of Watson as intelligent, charming, level-headed, courageous and resourceful is much closer to Conan Doyle’s conception than either the bungling, inveterately stupid Nigel Bruce or the self-effacing Ian Fleming. One other player deserves special mention: Erich Ponto who seems exactly right for Stapleton. A difficult part, superbly played. Bruno Güttner portrays a PROLETARIAN Sherlock Holmes.
