The Song of the Homeland (digital quality)
Das unsterbliche Lied (Original Title)
The film dramatizes the origins of the world-famous Christmas carol "Silent Night, Holy Night" ("Stille Nacht, heilige Nacht"), composed by Franz Xaver Gruber with lyrics by parish assistant Joseph Mohr in Oberndorf near Salzburg in 1818. Alongside the historical-fictional creation of the song, the narrative weaves in a local story involving a young couple's romance and family conflicts.
