The White Dream
"Der weiße Traum" (1943), also known as "The White Dream," is a musical comedy film set in Vienna and one of the most successful German entertainment films during the Second World War. It tells the story of a figure skater mistakenly cast in a new revue at the Vienna Palace Theatre. The role was originally intended for the theatre owner's untalented girlfriend, who then closes the theater. The troupe must find a solution and a new venue to continue the show.

The musical numbers are elaborate. Remarkable staging and choreography, with a lively comedy plot, which offers considerable entertainment in lavish scenery.
I present for comparison a Hollywood comparable “The Ice Follies of 1939”. On which Frank Nugent in The New York Times commented, “Far be it from us to rap one of Mr. Rapf’s more glittering productions; what we mildly object to is the fact that the glitter does not extend to the dialogue, the incidents, the characters (for whom “fictitious” is an understatement) or the story, which is the one about the matrimonial clashing of two careers.
