Glückskinder (Original Title)
Glückskinder (Lucky Kids) is a screwball comedy directed by Paul Martin, starring the iconic UFA duo Lilian Harvey and Willy Fritsch. The film follows a reporter (Fritsch) who, to prevent an unknown, destitute woman (Harvey) from going to jail, impulsively claims they are engaged. A skeptical judge forces them into an immediate marriage, resulting in a chaotic, witty, and fast-paced whirlwind romance set in a stylized 1930s New York City. The film is celebrated for its comedic chemistry and features the popular song "Ich wollt ich wär ein Huhn" (I Wish I Was a Chicken).

Glückskinder is first class entertainment, very well directed and has brilliant and witty dialogue by Curt Goetz. The cinematography is also very good. Furthermore, there are a couple of very nice and silly songs and dances. Note a hilarious court room scene, especially the judge played by Paul Bildt. He is brilliant. Masterclass in acting. Also, meal offerings at what seems like an ordinary tavern is worth paying attention to. Lobster, escargot, oysters, caviar. This probably testified to the German impression of America as a land of abundance and where sidewalks were made of gold.
I would like to draw your attention to one more thing. This movie is considered a German response to the 1934 American movie “It Happened One Night” directed by Frank Capra and starring Clark Gable and Claudette Colbert. It is not a bad movie in comparison with the other Hollywood junk. I have uploaded it so you can draw a comparison.
