In this operetta adaptation, a young woman is in love with her cousin who is in India, while her impatient uncle wants to marry her off without further ado to a rich merchant. A wandering musician arrives late one evening and the aunt mistakes him for a cousin returning from India. When the real cousin arrives only love can save the day!
While watching this movie I could not stop thinking about the completely different fates of the two protagonists-Lien Deyers and Lizzi Holzschuh. Lien Deyers future was a tragedy. She should not have given up her successful acting career for the sake of her Jewish husband and should not have left Germany. Alternatively, Lizzi Holzschuh stayed in Germany and had a pretty successful acting career.
